Welcome to Northern NSW Mentors!
Northern NSW Mentors is part of the Golden Gurus Program which is facilitated by a range of quality organisations across Australia and funded by the Australian Government. In the Northern Rivers region of NSW, NORTEC Employment and Training, in conjunction with Southern Cross University are the coordinators of the program which helps to match suitable business mentors to start-up businesses in our region.
The Golden Gurus program aims to match experienced business people who are retired, semi-retired or have some spare time on their hands, with small start-up businesses who can benefit from their expertise.
What is expected of a mentor?
Mentors need to be experienced business people (managers, operators and owners) but do not need any experience in mentoring as training will be provided.
Golden Gurus who support local start-up businesses may:
- help identify / review opportunities for business improvement
- explore strategies that could be useful in addressing barriers to business success
- assist the business owner to network
- help the business find out about appropriate government and non-government services, incentives and supports
- share relevant business experiences, providing examples of how a situation could be approached
Mentoring Works!
Recent studies have shown that small businesses that are mentored can double their chances of viability. In the Northern Rivers Region, small businesses are one of the main wealth creators and employers and the health of these businesses is the basis of the economy.
